Aridaria is a genus of plants fromthe afternoon flower family (Aizoaceae). The botanical name of the genus is derived from the Latin word aridus for 'dry' and refers to the dry habitat of the plants.

description

The species of the genus Aridaria are low-growing or reach heights of up to 1 meter. They are upright shrubs with thickened roots . The internodes are lignified. The cortex does not contain any additional vascular bundles. Their almost cylindrical, sloping leaves are arranged opposite to one another and briefly fused together at their base. Their central water-storing cells are enlarged. The small bladder cells are mesomorphic and strongly flattened.

The flowers form cymes . They have a diameter of up to 40 millimeters. There are four sepals . The white or on the inside bright pink, yellow, copper-colored, rose-colored or outside red petals are fused with the sepals to form a short tube. There are no thread-like staminodes , the nectaries are shell-shaped.

The four-compartment capsule fruits have flaps that open and close several times. The capsule fruits contain brown or dark brown, D-shaped or horseshoe-shaped seeds with a rough seed coat . They are up to 1.4 millimeters long.
