The former Arklow M-class is a six-unit coaster class .

history

The ships were built at the end of the 1980s by the Hugo Peters shipyard in Wewelsfleth and the Hitzler shipyard in Lauenburg for the Irish shipping company Arklow Shipping. The ships were the first of the shipping company to be able to pass under fixed bridges on rivers and canals due to their relatively low height above the waterline.

The ships were sold between 2000 and 2004. Some of them later underwent modifications.

The Arklow Manor was founded in 2001 in Poland for chemical tanker rebuilt. Six tanks were installed in the hold of the ship, each holding 200 m³ of chemicals (98% when the tanks are full).

The Arklow Mill was converted into a self-extinguishing facility in 2004. The ship was equipped with a platform on which an excavator is attached. The platform can be moved over the entire length of the hatch on a device on the hatch coaming .

The Arklow Marsh , sold in 2004, was initially used as a bulk carrier for a few years. From autumn 2010 to June 2011 she was converted into a special ship in Poland for the supply of offshore fish farms . The ship got new holds and superstructures and several cranes on both sides. While the main engine was retained, four new diesel generators were installed and the ship was equipped with two new transverse thruster systems for dynamic positioning of the ship.

description

The drive of the vessels is performed by a six-cylinder - Diesel engine manufacturer's MaK (type: 6 M 332) with 749  kW power . The motor acts on a fixed propeller via a reduction gear . The ships are equipped with a bow thruster with an output of 180 kW. Two DAF diesel generators as well as an emergency and harbor generator are available for power generation.

The deck superstructures are located in the rear of the ships. The bridge house is separated from the flat deck house and hydraulically adjustable in height. The masts are foldable. The ships are thus able to cross bridges on rivers and canals. The box-shaped cargo hold is located in front of the superstructure . The cargo area is 43.20 m long, 9.00 m wide and 7.00 m high. The space is closed by seven hatch covers. The hatch covers can be moved on the hatch coaming and stacked on top of one another at the ends of the hatch. To do this, they are lifted with the help of hydraulic rams and another hatch cover is moved under the lifted ones.

The ships are equipped with two bulkheads with which the hold can be divided. The bulkheads can be set up in seven positions. When the bulkheads are not needed, they can be parked at the end of the hold. The length of the room is then reduced to 42.50 m. The loading space has a capacity of 2,722 m³ for bulk goods and 2,677 m³ for general cargo. The tank top can be loaded with 11 t / m², the hatch cover with 1.4 t / m². Deck cargo can be stowed up to 4 m high in the rear area on the hatch and up to 2.5 m high in the front area. 31 20-foot containers can also be loaded on deck .
