Armando Puklavec

Armando Puklavec (born January 1, 1974 in Čakovec ) is a Croatian baritone .

Career

Armando Puklavec started his musical training as a trombonist in the class of Stjepan Rukljić at the Varaždin Music School . At the age of 15 he started singing solo with Darija Hreljanović. At the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, he graduated in the class of Ralf Döring and obtained his master's degree in the class of chamber singer Robert Holl .

Puklavec made his first operatic appearance at the Schlosstheater Schönbrunn in Vienna as Jean-Baptiste Pouquelin / Molière in Rolf Liebermann's opera Die Schule der Frauen . His debut as Eugene Onegin at the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb received a lot of attention and the critics unanimously described it as a "real sensation". From then on, numerous appearances on opera stages followed as Rigoletto , Germont , Rodrigo Posa , Count Luna in Verdi operas, as well as Tonio ( Leoncavallo : Pagliacci ), Figaro ( Rossini : II barbiere di Siviglia ), Kurwenal ( Wagner : Tristan und Isolde ), Marcello ( Puccini : La Bohème ), Escamillo ( Bizet : Carmen ), Herr Fluth ( Otto Nicolai : The merry women of Windsor ), Shaklowity (Mussorgsky: Chowanschtschina ), Papageno, Guglielmo, Belcore, Malatesta.

Puklavec appeared in Orff's Carmina Burana and in Fauré's Requiem in the Golden Hall of the Wiener Musikverein . He sang the songs of a traveling journeyman by Gustav Mahler in Kraków with the Kraków Philharmonic. With the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra he appeared in the Christmas concert in Vukovar as well as in the German Requiem by Johannes Brahms and in the cantata Christen, etchet this day, BWV 63 , by JS Bach. With the Michael Haydn Orchestra Bozen he sang the cantata “In terra Pax” by Frank Martin .

The baritone sang the Mozart Requiem in the Zagreb Cathedral on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birthday of Lovro v. Matačić. In the Salzburg Cathedral he sang "Cum invicarem" (Psalm 4) by Vatroslav Lisinski . He performed at the Varaždin Baroque Evenings in GF Handel's “Te Deum”. In the Altötting Basilica, the Votive Church in Vienna, in the Cankar House in Ljubljana and in Trieste, he gave the part of Augustine in the oratorio “Ad missam in Agris” by August Ipavec . Bass solo in the ballet “Pulcinella” by Igor Stravinsky in Split. Armando Puklavec often appeared as an interpreter of the German song (Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Wolf, Beethoven ...), but also with Croatian and Russian solo pieces.

In several years of collaboration with the Zagreb Quartet he performed the cycle “Pjesme moje majke” by Josip Štolcer-Slavenski in Prague and Čakovec , and in the Zagreb Mimara a song cycle by Vladimir Ruždjak “Pet međimurskih pjesama”, which he also performed in the Lisinski Concert Hall with the Croatian military orchestra. The Varaždin composer Davor Bobić dedicated the orchestral cycle “Međimurske legende” to him.

Since January 1st 2007 Puklavec has been the first baritone at the Sarajevo Opera .
