Armen Violetta is a German silent film drama from 1920 directed by Paul Ludwig Stein with Pola Negri in the leading role.

action

The story takes Dumas' The Lady of the Camellias as a template and transposes it into the modern (early 20th century) and into another environment.

Violetta comes from a broken family. Her father is a drinker and hits her, whereupon the girl escapes her parents' home. From now on she works as a flower girl and can therefore eat more poorly than right. As a result of a car accident, she meets the so-called “better circles”. After she becomes the lover of a bored do-for-nothing and good-for-nothing, she meets the writer Alfred Germont and is accepted into his house by him.

Out of consideration for Alfred's sick sister Clare and their father, who does not consider Violetta to be "the right way to deal with" Alfred, she leaves the talented writer under a flimsy pretext. And again poor Violetta comes across a feudal bon vivant who devotes himself exclusively to the joys of life, but who is not good for her. Violetta has not forgotten Alfred, her great love. Finally, a few months later, she developed severe lung disease. On the deathbed there is a reconciliation with Alfred, then Violetta breathes out her life.
