Armin Sierszyn

Armin Sierszyn (* 1942 in Bäretswil ) is a Swiss theologian . From 1973 to 2013 he was a lecturer and professor for historical and practical theology at the STH Basel as well as a long-time pastor in Bauma and dean in the Zurich Oberland. From 1982 to 1994 he was also a member and president of the primary school administration in Bäretswil. On the maternal side, Armin Sierszyn comes from the old Zurich Oberland farming class. His father, a Pole interned through Switzerland in World War II, was a farmer and cattle breeder in Bäretswil. He is married and has two grown children and nine grandchildren.

Life

He studied theology in Zurich , Bethel and Marburg . In 1969 he passed the state examination (lic. Theol.) At the University of Zurich . In 1970 he was ordained in the Evangelical Reformed Church of the Canton of Zurich . At the University of Erlangen earned his Doctor of theology (Dr. theol.) At Walter Künneth . In addition to his work in the Reformed Church in the Canton of Zurich , he teaches historical and practical theology at the STH Basel from 1973 to 2013 . There he was a member of the Board of Trustees between 1978 and 1985 and from 2003 to 2013 and served as its Vice-President until the University Council was founded and the Board of Trustees was dissolved at the same time. From 1980 to 2013 he was also the prorector of the Basel University. Since his retirement (2013) he has been secretary of the University Council and the Board of Trustees.

As an evangelical and Reformation theologian, he emphasizes the university's openness to the various regional and free churches. In his research he deals with historical-critical theology from a biblical point of view. He sees the Church and the entire continent of Europe stand and fall with the word of the Bible on which they are both based. Accordingly, he pleads for a new birth of the Church from the Word of God.

Armin Sierszyn is also author of local history and local history and theological literature.
