Armored Angel was an Australian Death - Thrash band. She was one of the pioneers of extreme metal both in Australia and around the world and, years after its dissolution, enjoys cult status in the global metal scene.

history

The group was founded in 1982 by bassist Glen "Lucy" Luck and guitarist Rowan Powell as Metal Asylum in Canberra . After being renamed Armored Angel in 1984 , the first line-up with drummer Dave Davis and singer Rick Wayy was completed and in 1985 the demo Baptism in Blood was released . In 1987, Luck completely swapped the line-up of the band and took the twins Joel (drums, vocals) and Matt Green (guitar) into the band. The trio released the demo Wings of Death in 1989 and another demo in 1990 called Communion . In 1991 the band initiated Metal for the Brain to raise money for their friend Alec Hurley, who was seriously injured in a brawl. A little later Armored Angel signed a contract with Id Records , a sub-label of Polygram Australia . Due to the associated promotion , the group was booked for the Big Day Out in 1993 as well as the opening act for Morbid Angel's Australian tour . In Id Records appeared EPs Stigmartyr (1992) and Mystery (1994). The band received additional attention through reports on the radio station Triple J and in the daily newspaper The Sydney Morning Herald .

After touring Europe and North America in 1995, the group began work on their debut album. A planned collaboration with Jaz Coleman from Killing Joke as a music producer failed; only one pre-production demo with four of the seven tracks exists of the studio recordings . Shortly thereafter, the group broke up, the organization of the Metal for the Brain took over from 1996 the Australian band Alchemist . In 1998, founder Glen Luck reformed the band and recorded the debut album Angel of the Sixth Order with guitarist and singer Yuri Ward and drummer Steve Luff , which was released in 1999 on the Australian independent label Warhead Records . Because of the lack of success and the bankruptcy of the record label, the band finally broke up after their last live appearance at Metal for the Brain in November 1999. Rumors of a reunion in 2008 were denied by both guitarist Yuri Ward and Glen Luck.

The group's demos and EPs have been re-released multiple times. In 1991 the 1989 demo Wings of Death was released on the English label CCG Underground Records as a 12 ″ mini LP . On the Australian label Abysmal Sounds in 2008 re-releases of the 1985 demo Baptism in Blood and the 1992 EP Stigmarty were released . In December 2006, Glen Luck began re-mastering the songs from the two EPs, the unreleased 1996 album and the debut album, these versions to be released in 2008 as a double album entitled Trisagion . This compilation has not yet been released.
