action

The feeble hermit son Sulo is the only survivor of the Kyyrölä family, which was once murdered by angry citizens for various offenses. After seven months of fleeing from his captors, the mentally disturbed man finally returns to the remote "House of Evil", which the locals have avoided, where he finds his family members, some of whom are mummified. He first reanimated his dead mother and his half-decayed younger brother Arvo, who was irresistibly drawn to women, using absurd means. At the insistence of the resuscitated mother, the faithless and quick-tempered head of the clan is awakened to new life. The psychopathic family is now reunited.

The next morning, the disfigured and visibly neglected Arvo - he is constantly losing his lower jaw - is sent to the hostile city to earn money for the family. The simple-minded Arvo does not succeed in establishing a permanent job. Rather, he manages to spend the money he has saved within a very short time. Therefore, mother and Sulo Kyyrölä travel to the unloved big city in search of Arvo.

Meanwhile, the lonely father Kyyrölä resuscitates members of the revolutionary "Red Guard" from 1918 from a nearby swamp. Accompanied by this army fighting for the attempted socialist overthrow - in reality there are seven resurrected people - the father finally also goes to the big city.

The prodigal son is quickly found, the mother is reunited with her sons. However, the family still needs money, so the two brothers sneak away to sell homemade booze . Like the Red Guards who have since arrived, the duo gets into the choice of a beauty queen , which is held in an amusement park. The revenants present trigger a state of public hysteria and panic, the desired revolution becomes a minor matter. After the situation has normalized, mother Kyyrölä and Sulo travel back, Arvo chooses the freedom he has cherished, a life away from the rural wasteland.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was not convincing due to the “unimaginative turmoil” in “screenplay, direction and actors” and could neither evoke “horror nor humor” .
