Arndt Meinhold

Arndt Meinhold (born November 24, 1941 in Scheibenberg ) is a Protestant theologian and Old Testament scholar .

Life

Arndt Meinhold studied Protestant theology at the University of Leipzig from 1960 to 1965 . From 1966 to 1967 he completed the unarmed alternative service as a construction soldier in the GDR army. He was refused an assistant at the University of Greifswald for political reasons. After completing his doctorate in 1971 with Siegfried Wagner in Greifswald and his habilitation in 1990 in Leipzig with a commentary on the proverbs , he held a university teaching post for Old Testament and Biblical Hebrew at the Catechetical College Naumburg from 1977 until it closed in the summer of 1993 . In 1982/83 and 1991/92 he was rector . From the winter semester 1993/94 he taught until his retirement at the end of the winter semester 2006/2007 as a professor for the Old Testament at the theological faculty of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg ; here he was Vice Dean from 2000–2001 and 2004–2005 . For many years he was co-editor of the Biblical Commentary on the Old Testament and, in addition to the Proverbs, commented on the Book of Esther and the Malachi script.
