Arne May

Arne May (born June 7, 1961 in Oberhausen ) is a German neurologist and neuroscientist . He is head of the headache outpatient department of the neurological clinic at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) and deputy director of the UKE Institute for Systemic Neurosciences. From 2008 to 2011 Arne May was President of the German Migraine and Headache Society (DMKG) .

Life

From 1984 to 1991 Arne May studied medicine at the Georg-August University of Göttingen , then from 1991 to 1995 assistant doctor in the neurological clinic of the University Hospital Essen . From 1996 to 1998 he worked abroad as a Clinical Research Fellow and Honorary Clinical Assistant at Peter J. Goadsby , Institute of Neurology, Queen Square, London, UK. 1998 to 1999 work in the psychiatric clinic of the University Hospital Essen. Senior physician at the Neurological Clinic, University Clinic Regensburg and head of the functional imaging work group and the headache work group from 1999 to June 2004. In June 2001, habilitation in neurology at the Medical Faculty of the Regensburg University Clinic with the title: "Cerebral blood flow and neuronal activation in primary headache: the neurovascular hypothesis ". His main scientific interests are headache , pain , neural plasticity and learning , functional imaging and morphometric imaging (VBM) . Arne May played a leading role in the development of the guidelines for the treatment of cluster headache and other trigeminal autonomic headache disorders of the German Migraine and Headache Society , the German Society for Neurology and the European Federation of Neurological Societies .
