Arne Edvard Nevanlinna (born June 5, 1925 in Helsinki , Finland ; † August 7, 2016 there ) was a Finnish architect , university professor and writer .

Life

Arne Nevanlinna was born in Helsinki in 1925 as the third child of the mathematician Rolf Nevanlinna . After graduating from school, Arne Nevanlinna entered the Lapland War in 1943 as a non-commissioned officer in a reconnaissance unit . At the end of the war he began to study architecture in 1945 , where he decided against civil engineering . He studied with JS Sirénille and became an architect in 1952. He opened his own architecture office in 1962. In parallel to his architectural work, which brought him several awards, he worked from 1965 to 1968 as assistant professor for home design at the Helsinki University of Technology. He held a visiting professorship at the University of Nairobi in 1979 , before becoming director of the master’s degree in architecture at the Helsinki University of Technology in 1984. He was appointed professor in 1986. In 1990 he held another visiting professorship for architecture at Washington University in St. Louis .

Since 1992 Nevanlinna worked as an author of fictional texts. He made his debut novel with Marie in 2008. In the same year he received a nomination for the Finlandia Prize for the book and was awarded the Thank You for the Book medal . Bastei Lübbe secured the book rights in 2011 and published it under the title of the same name based on a translation by Angela Plöger .
