Arnis Vilks

Arnis Augusts Vilks (* 1956 in Buxtehude ) is a German economist and philosopher of Latvian descent.

Life

He studied economics, philosophy, mathematics and political science at the University of Hamburg , and received his doctorate in 1983 under Harald Scherf . The habilitation in economics followed in 1990. After a research stay at the University of Cambridge as Visiting Fellow of Clare Hall and a professorship at the EuroFaculty at the University of Latvia in Riga , he was one of the first professors at the Leipzig Graduate School of Management (HHL), which was founded in 1992. where he holds the chair for microeconomics. From 2000 to 2005 and again on an interim basis from 2010 to 2011, Vilks was rector of HHL.

While his early research focused primarily on the logical and philosophical foundations of economic theory, and covered topics such as aggregation , axiomatics , equilibrium, and the formal-logical treatment of belief and knowledge in game theory , after his rectorate Vilks turned to the project of a critical overall view of the Western worldview , which resulted in his "Meditations on God and the World and Money" published in 2013.

From 2013 to 2014 he was the tandem dean of the College of Business and Economics at Mekelle University in Mek'ele , Ethiopia.
