Arnold Bercken
Johann Georg Arnold Berkemeier , since 1911 Bercken called Berkemeier , (born January 29, 1861 in Detmold , † April 3, 1935 in Bückeburg ) was a German archivist and lawyer .
Life
He was the son of the princely Lippe chancellery Philipp Wilhelm Berkemeier and his wife, née Hasenclever, and traditionally changed his family name at the age of 50 by adding a name.
After attending grammar school, Arnold Berkemeier studied law, political science and history at the universities of Munich and Tübingen . After traveling abroad, he began his legal clerkship in 1882. In 1886 he became an assistant in the Detmold government.
From 1884 to 1896 Arnold Berkemeier was state counsel for the state parliament of the Principality of Lippe . In 1894 he was appointed archivist and assistant to the princely-Lippe cabinet minister, whom he supported in a leading position in the princely controversy for the throne until 1905 by representing the legal point of view of Old Lippe and Bückeburg. During this time he wrote several pamphlets and legal opinions as well as individual investigations.
From 1914 on he had the title of Privy Councilor and worked as an archivist in Detmold and in Bückeburg, where he was head of the princely house archives. He died in the latter place in 1935.
Arnold Bercken was a member of the Historical Commission for Lower Saxony .
