Arnold Hufenus

Arnold Hufenus (born December 24, 1853 in Degersheim , † August 1, 1931 in St. Gallen , Catholic , legal resident in Degersheim) was a Swiss entrepreneur .

Life

Arnold Hufenus was born on December 24, 1853 in Degersheim as the son of master cooper Jakob Anton Hufenus. He initially received training as an embroidery draftsman at the St. Gallen drawing school. He then worked as a designer at Reich Frères in Paris and Johann Jakob Nef in St. Gallen. In 1878, Hufenus founded the Grauer & Hufenus company in Degersheim. In 1884 he separated from the co-owner Isidor Grauer.

From 1885 onwards, Arnold Hufenus set up his own company, later A. Hufenus & Co. , in St. Gallen, which held a leading position in the manufacture and export of high-quality embroidery during the boom until 1914 . In addition, Hufenus created an important collection of lace and embroidery. The company and the Hufenus collection were bought by Bischoff Textil AG in 1959 .

Arnold Hufenus married Maria Catharina, the daughter of Joseph Lieberher, in 1879. He died on August 1, 1931 at the age of 77 in St. Gallen.
