Arnold Steffan
Arnold Steffan (born July 27, 1848 in Munich ; † December 4, 1882 there ) was a German landscape painter, son of the Swiss landscape painter Johann Gottfried Steffan (1815–1905).
Steffan began his painting apprenticeship with his father and Michael Echter and studied from May 2, 1867 at the Royal Academy of the Arts in Munich with Alexander Strähuber , Wilhelm von Diez and Karl von Piloty .
Then Steffan went on study trips to the Bavarian and Tyrolean Alps, Austria and Switzerland . Later he also visited Italy .
In the period of only about ten years, from 1869 to 1879, Arnold Steffan created almost exclusively landscape paintings, which he a. a. exhibited at the Münchner Kunstverein .
Arnold Steffan married in 1874, his wife died five years later. As a result of a stroke, he suffered paralysis on the right side of his body. He still tried to paint with his left hand but died at the age of 34, three years after his wife's death.
