Arnold Wühl (born October 16, 1946 in Speyer ) is a German sculptor .

Life

Between 1968 and 1973 Wühl first studied art history and archeology at the University of Tübingen, followed by art studies at the University of Frankfurt am Main and the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Zacharias and Kallenbach. Since 1973 he has been teaching in Speyer and Schifferstadt . He is a member of the Künstlerbund Speyer .

At the end of the 1980s he achieved his artistic breakthrough, especially with his small bronze sculptures. In 1987 he was awarded the Hans Purrmann Prize by the city of Speyer . A year later, he was awarded the Otto Ditscher Prize of the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis.

One focus of his work in the early 1990s was on works in public space. During this time he created several wells, especially in the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis . In Römerberg and Waldsee these take up the history of the communities. Other works seem rather playful, like the Spielbrunnen in Speyer and Schifferstadt. His works are not only found in exposed locations, but sometimes also somewhat inconspicuously "by the wayside", as some street bollards in Harthausen show.

Despite the close relationship with his home region, his work is also known beyond regional borders. This is shown, for example, by the invitation to an exhibition in the Gerhard-Marcks-Haus in Bremen in the summer of 2006 , in which his group of figures III a . a. was shown alongside small sculptures by Picasso and Kirchner .
