Life
Grünberg's father Hermann Grünberg fled Berlin in 1933 and, like Grünberg's mother Hannelore Grünberg-Klein, was one of the few members of the family to survive the racist persecution by the German National Socialists . Arnon Grünberg first attended the Amsterdam Montessori School and from 1982 to 1988 the Vossius High School in Amsterdam. From this he was expelled as an "anti-social element", and he therefore ended his school career. He founded his own publishing house (Kasimir).
In 1994 Blauer Montag appeared , an international bestseller . His next book was Extras , and in 1998 he published De Heilige Antonio . In 2000, Phantomschmerz was published , with which Grünberg won the AKO Prize, one of the most important literary prizes in the Netherlands.
He published two novels under the pseudonym Marek van der Jagt . Amour Fou became an aspekte quarterly book in Germany . Also in 2002 he received the NRW Literature Prize in Germany for his work.
In 2003, The Bird is Sick was published. With this book he received the AKO award for the second time. In 2004 De joodse messias appeared . For his book Tirza (2006), he was awarded the most important prize from Belgium, De Gouden Uil , for the second time since 2002 .
Grünberg is also a well-known columnist , essayist, and blogger . He writes for numerous newspapers and magazines . As an embedded journalist , he was twice in Iraq. His daily column on the front page of the left-liberal Dutch daily De Volkskrant gets a lot of attention. Arnon Grünberg has lived in New York City since 1995 .
