The Arnoult is a river in France that runs in the Charente-Maritime department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region . It rises in the municipality of Rétaud , drains generally in a north-westerly direction and flows into the Charente after 36 kilometers just east of Rochefort . From Pont-l'Abbé-d'Arnoult , the river is canalized and continues under the name Canal de Pont-l'Abbé . East of Échillais , this then flows into the navigable Canal de la Seudre à la Charente , which in turn releases the waters of the Arnoult into the Charente.
