Arnulf Blasig

Arnulf Blasig (born December 30, 1913 in Berlin ; † November 13, 1998 in Herborn ) was a " Stuka " pilot in the German Air Force in World War II and holder of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross .

Early career

From October 1936 to February 1937 Blasig was stationed with Sturzkampfgeschwader 162 (St.G. 162) "Immelmann" in Lübeck before joining the staff of III. Group of St.G. 165 was transferred to Fürstenfeldbruck and Wertheim .

Second World War

In November 1938 he took over the function of a squadron captain in the I. Group of the St.G. 77 in Brzeg and took part in the attack on Poland with this squadron . Blasig then led the 10th squadron of Lehrgeschwader 1 (10 (St) / LG 1) in the French campaign and the Battle of Britain , before he was given command of the entire IV Group on July 1, 1941. In the summer of 1941 his group was transferred to the Eastern Front in Finland , where he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on September 4, 1941 . On January 27, 1942, his group was renamed Group I of Sturzkampfgeschwader 5, but Blasig was replaced as commandant by Major Hans-Karl Stepp and transferred to the Reich Aviation Ministry. In December 1943 he became the commander of the FFS (A) 32 pilot school in Pardubitz and finally took over the III in April 1945. Group of the Schlachtgeschwader 10 (III./SG 10, formerly II./St.G. 77). At the end of the war, Arnulf called "Blasmich" Blasig had flown more than 180 enemy missions and held the rank of major.

Ten years after the end of the war, Blasig joined the Bundeswehr ; he ended his career on March 31, 1972 as a colonel .
