Arnulf Neuwirth (born January 4, 1912 in Gablitz , Lower Austria ; † February 6, 2012 in Eggenburg ) was an Austrian artist.

Life

Neuwirth studied from 1930 to 1937 at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts under Karl Sterrer and, guided by his teacher, was interested in East Asian landscape painting. After long journeys and military service as part of an interpreting company during World War II, Neuwirth co-founded the artist group Der Kreis after 1945 , of which he was chairman from 1950 to 1972. In the late 1950s he returned to Lower Austria, to Radschin and later to Eggenburg , the places of his childhood where he lived to the end. Artistically, he initially worked mainly as a draftsman and watercolorist, later with collages. Neuwirth taught from 1953 to 1972 at the Vienna Fashion School in Schloss Hetzendorf .
