Arnulf Röseler (born July 16, 1935 in Berlin ; † June 9, 2020 ) was a German physicist . He is known for his works and textbooks in the field of infrared - optical and infrared ellipsometry .

Life

Rösler studied physics in Jena and East Berlin, where he received his diploma from Humboldt University in 1960 . He then received his doctorate ( PhD A ) in 1965 in the field of infrared optical devices. In 1971 the doctorate B followed (similar to the habilitation). Before that, in 1970 he worked at the Central Institute for Optics and Spectroscopy (ZOS) of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR in East Berlin under the direction of Klaus Junge . There he dealt among other things with infrared spectroscopy on semiconductors and the calculation and measurement of apparatus functions. From 1970 to 1976 he headed the optics development of interferometers for Soviet weather satellites (basis for Venus probes, see Venera mission ). Then Röseler dealt with ellipsometry and was one of the first specialists in the field of infrared ellipsometry in the early 1980s. He has written books and numerous specialist articles on this subject.

With the German reunification and the review and reorganization of the research facilities of the GDR, his work at the ZOS ended. In 1992 Röseler became an employee of the Laboratory for Spectroscopic Methods in Environmental Analysis (LSMU) of the branch of the Institute for Spectrochemistry and Applied Spectroscopy in Berlin. In his retirement, Röseler was still a member of the Society for the Promotion of Applied Optics, Optoelectronics, Quantum Electronics and Spectroscopy e. V. active and published together with Ernst-Heiner Korte and Karsten Hinrichs , among others .

For his work, Röseler received the GDR National Prize 1st Class for Science and Technology (1976) and the Bunsen-Kirchhoff Prize (1992).
