Aron Hersch Żupnik (* 1848, † 1917), also Aharon Hirsh Zupnik , was a Jewish writer and publisher in Galicia .

life and work

His writings appeared in Hamashber , Hamagid, and Hashachar . In his writings he analyzed Jewish education. In 1883 he founded in Drohobych , a Hebrew printing press and the German-language weekly newspaper published Drohobyczer newspaper with Hebrew letters. His intention was to spread the ideas of Enlightenment and emancipation among the Jews in Galicia. From time to time there was a Hebrew edition.

He was also an employee of "Ẓiyyon", a magazine that was initially devoted to Hebrew literature and appeared irregularly from 1885 to 1888 and later became a monthly journal (1896/97).

His printing house AH Żupnik was successful and also had business relationships with the Viennese court. Probably in 1904 or 1905 he was appointed supplier to the imperial and royal court .

  • Emet u-Mischpat (Drohobycz, 1883), a Hebrew translation of Joseph von Wertheimer's “Jewish Teaching and Jewish Life” (also published in Polish under the title “Nauka Zydowska”)
  • Vom Heder zur Werkstätte (ib. 1884), a German novel about Jewish life in Galicia
  • For the solution of the Jewish question through the Jews (Berlin, 1885)
