Arpa Ke'un

Arpa Ke'un , also Arpa Khan , Arpā Kaʾon or Gāvon , ( Mongolian Арпа Кэүн хан Arpa Keun Chan , † May 15, 1336 ) was the tenth ruler of the Ilkhan during the fall of the Mongol Empire in Persia . He was a member of the House of Tolui . His family could be traced back to Arigkbugha Khan , who was the youngest brother of Möngke Khan , Kublai Khan and Hülegü . Thus he was not a descendant of Hülegü like the other rulers, but his brother.

Arpa Ke'un came to power after the death of Abu Sa'id in 1335 and was crowned Ilkhan on December 5, 1335 in Karabakh . He quickly had to fight against an invasion of Uzbek Khan by the Golden Horde. He triumphed over the invaders and next executed the widow of Abu Sa'id's Baghdad Khatun to consolidate his power. He then married Sati Beg , the sister of Abu Sa'id and widow of Amir Tschupan . In 1336 he faced an attack by the governor of Baghdad, the Oiraten atenAlī Padšāh, the uncle of the former ruler Abu Sa'id. He defeated the Ilkhan on May 9th near Maragha , and shortly afterwards Arpa Ke'un was captured in Soltanije and brought to Ujan. There he was executed. He was succeeded as the new Ilchan Musa, but who was a puppet of other forces.
