Artjom Maximowitsch Okulow ( Russian Артём Макси́мович Оку́лов ; * May 5, 1994 ) is a Russian weightlifter . He is multiple junior world and European champion and won a bronze medal in the light heavyweight division at the 2013 and 2014 senior world championships .

Career

Okulow comes from Chusovoy . He started lifting weights as a teenager in his hometown and grew to become a world class weightlifter in just a few years. The Russian Weightlifting Association recognized his qualities early on, encouraged him intensively and has been using him regularly since 2009 at the world and European championships in the youth field. Since 2012 he has been training in a training center in Kazan and studying pedagogy in Moscow. With a height of 1.69 meters and a weight of approx. 85 kg, it has ideal physical conditions (lever) to be able to achieve maximum performance.

His first start at an international championship took place at the Junior World Championship 2009 (U 17) in Chiang Mai / Thailand, where he still had to be content with 4th place in the lightweight with a performance in a duel of 267 kg (121-146) . In 2010 he was in Valencia Junior European Champion (U 17) in the middleweight division , where he increased his duel performance to 320 kg (143-177) within a year. In August 2010 he was also a youth middleweight Olympic champion in Singapore. He achieved 327 kg (145–182).

In May 2011 Artjom Okulow was Junior World Champion (U 17) in Lima in the light heavyweight division and increased his duel performance to 347 kg (156-191). In May 2011 he won the European Junior Championships (U 20) in Bucharest and lifted there in the light heavyweight 353 kg (158-195), which he put on his compatriot Wiktor Charchenko, who came to 345 kg (151-194) 2nd place relegated. In May 2012 Artjom Okulow had to accept a defeat at the Junior World Championship (U 20) in Antigua in the light heavyweight division. He achieved there in a duel 353 kg (160-193), but the Chinese Zhan Huacong was better with 359 kg (165-194) and snatched the title away from him. For this he was in November 2012 winner of the University World Championships in Eilat, where he achieved 357 kg (162-195) in a duel.

In May 2013 Artjom Okulow was again Junior World Champion (U 20) in Lima, scoring 360 kg (165-195). He relegated Aex Chugajew, Belarus, 345 kg, and Arley Mendez from Cuba, 342 kg, to the places. In July 2013 he started at the Universiade in Kazan. He achieved there in a duel 371 kg (168-203), but had to admit defeat to his compatriot Apti Auchadow, who came to 372 kg (157-205). In October 2013 he was used at the Senior World Championships in Wrocław. He increased there to a duel performance of 381 kg (172-209), with the behind Apti Auchadow , who achieved 387 kg (175-212) and the same performance, but a few grams lighter Ivan Markov from Bulgaria, a World Cup bronze medal in a duel won. With his performance in pushing, he won a World Cup silver medal.

In June 2014 Artjom Okulow started at the Junior World Championships in Kazan in the light heavyweight division and won there in a duel with 362 kg (165-197). He also won the junior world title with his performance in snatching and pushing. Then he was in the light heavyweight first Russian champion in the seniors with a duel of 373 kg (173-200). He was also used at the World Championships in Almaty in the light heavyweight division, where he was able to improve further. He achieved there in a duel 385 kg (174-211) and thus took 3rd place behind Kianoush Rostami, Iran, 391 kg (178-213) and Iwan Markow, Bulgaria, 390 kg (179-211). He also won a bronze medal in pushing.

At the 2015 World Championships in Houston , USA , Okulow won a gold medal in the weight class up to 85 kg. He won a silver medal at the 2017 European Championships in Split , Croatia . At the 2018 World Championships in Ashgabat , Turkey , he won a gold medal in the weight class up to 89 kg.
