Meningeal artery media
The arteria meningea media ("middle meninges - artery ") is an arterial blood vessel originating in humans, horses and dogs from the maxillary artery ( arteria maxillaris ) . It runs through the foramen spinosum of the sphenoid bone into the cranial cavity and supplies the dura mater and the cranial cranial bones , together with the arteria meningea anterior and the arteria meningea posterior .
Branches
The arteria meningea media branches within the cranial cavity into:
- numerous small branches to supply the dura mater and the ganglion gasseri .
- The ramus petrosus superficialis enters the porus acousticus internus and supplies the nervus facialis ; it anastomoses with the ramus stylomastoideus of the arteria auricularis posterior .
- The superior tympanic artery pulls into the canal of the tensor tympani muscle and supplies it.
- Orbital branches pass through the superior orbital fissure or separate openings of the sphenoid bone and anastomose with branches of the ophthalmic artery .
- Temporal branches pass through openings in the sphenoid bone and anastomose in the temporal fossa with the deep temporal arteries .
