Arthold by Belley
Arthold von Belley (* 1101 at Sothonod Castle in Valromey , France ; † October 6, 1206 in the Arvières Charterhouse in Lochieu near Annecy , France), also Artoldus or Arthaud, was bishop of Belley and Carthusian monks .
Life
Arthold was born into a noble family in Verona, Italy, and worked in his youth at the court of Amadeus III. of Savoy and entered the Charterhouse of Portes in 1123 . The prior at that time was Bernardus. He was commissioned by Guigo I , prior of the Grande Chartreuse , to found the Charterhouse Arvières together with six confreres and to preside over it as its first prior. In 1184 he became Bishop of Belley. 1190 allowed Pope Clement III. that he could return his office as bishop, and he went back to Arvières.
Commemoration
His feast day is October 6th and October 8th in the Carthusian Order . The festival has been celebrated in the Carthusian Order since 1859.
