Arthur Granville Dewalt
Arthur Granville Dewalt (born October 11, 1854 in Bath , Northampton County , Pennsylvania , † October 26, 1931 in Allentown , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1915 and 1921 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Arthur Dewalt attended the public schools of his home country and then Keystone State Normal School until 1870 . In 1874 he graduated from Lafayette College in Easton . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1877, he began to work in Allentown in this profession. Between 1880 and 1883 he was a district attorney in Lehigh County there . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1902 and 1910 he was a member of the Pennsylvania Senate ; in 1904 and 1908 he took part as a delegate at the respective Democratic National Conventions . From 1909 to 1910 he was his party's state chairman for Pennsylvania. He also served as the commander of the fourth regiment of his state's National Guard for ten years.
In the 1914 congressional elections , Dewalt was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 13th constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded John Hoover Rothermel on March 4, 1915 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1921 . During this time the First World War fell . During his tenure in Congress, the 18th and 19th amendments were ratified.
In 1920 Arthur Dewalt renounced another congressional candidacy. After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, he practiced again as a lawyer in Allentown, where he died on October 26, 1931.
