Arthur Kittel (born August 7, 1838 in Königsberg i. Pr. , † January 24, 1926 ibid) was a German doctor in East Prussia .

Kittel's family is originally from Bohemia . One of Kittel's ancestors settled as a coppersmith in Graudenz in West Prussia . Kittel's father was a large landowner in Bolmin near Culm . The mother was a daughter of Major von Chappuis, who was born in southern Switzerland , and a born Countess Pfeil. Major von Chappuis served at times at the court of Frederick the Great and founded the noble family that emerged in the Prussian army .

Life

Kittel attended the old town high school and studied medicine at the Albertus University . In 1858, like his classmate Bernhard Rathke, he became a member of the Germania Königsberg fraternity . He fought 18 lengths and survived 2 pistol duels . In 1862 he was the first "guest" in the new Königsberg detention center .

In 1866 he went to the German war as a medical sergeant in the dragoon regiment "Prince Albrecht of Prussia" (Litthauisches) No. 1 . After his return he worked as a cholera doctor in Königsberg, but did not finally finish his medical studies until 1869. On the advice of a federal brother, he settled in the same year as a general practitioner in Ruß on the Memel . In 1870/71 he took part in the Franco-German War . Although the rural practice stretched over 60 km, he operated it until 1906. In his memoirs, he reports, among other things, on the situation of the Jews in Ruß. After 37 years he moved back to Königsberg in 1906. In 1909, at the age of 69, he moved to the Germanic corporation , the purchase of which he had supported. To get to the bars , he only had to go one floor down.

As a member of the German Progressive Party , he was a member of the Prussian Landtag for the constituency of Memel - Heydekrug from 1881 to 1882 .

Through his acquaintance with the writer Hermann Sudermann , Sanitätsrat Kittel entered the literature as a selfless obstetrician .
