Arthur Motta

Arthur Motta ( 1922 - 20th century) was a French jazz drummer.

Motta was the son of a music teacher and learned the violin from 1931. In 1941/42 he and his band won the prize for smaller ensembles at the amateur competition in Salle Pleyel . In 1943 he was committed to forced labor in Vienna, where he played in the dance orchestra of the European broadcaster at Reichssender Wien and with the jazz combo Mytteis, Landl & Co. , which consisted of Ernst Landl , Herbert Mytteis , Rudi Kregcyck and Vittorio Ducchini , in the Steffldiele. Motta was also involved in recordings of Ernst Landl with his soloists for Telefunken (“Tanz mit mir”). After the war he returned to France and played a. a. Hubert Rostaing et son sextets and Tony Proteau. In 1947 he recorded with Hubert Rostaing, Henri Crolla and Léo Chauliac for the Swing label ( Jam Session, No. 4 ). In 1948 he accompanied Django Reinhardt in the Quintette du Hot Club de France . In the following decade he worked a. a. with the Claude Bolling Jazz All Stars, Maurice Vander , Pierre Gossez and in a duo with Louis Vola . Motta belonged to the Jet Quartet in the 1960s (with Géo Daly, among others ). In the field of jazz he was involved in 64 recording sessions between 1943 and 1966.

Motta was killed in a car accident.
