Arthur Salomonsohn (born April 3, 1859 in Inowrazlaw , † June 15, 1930 in Berlin ) was a German-Jewish banker.

Life

Salomonsohn was the nephew of the general partner of the Disconto-Gesellschaft Adolph Salomonsohn . After studying law, he joined the Disconto-Gesellschaft and in 1895 also became a personally liable partner of the institute. The following year he joined the Society of Friends .

In 1917 Salomonsohn became a member of the German Fatherland Party . In 1919 he helped finance the Anti-Bolshevik League . In May 1918 he wrote to the State Secretary of the Reich Treasury :

“Russia [...] is a colonial country at the gates of Germany, which promises abundant employment to German trade and industry for many decades to come. Opening up this colonial Germany is the order of the day. "

Salomonsohn was heavily involved in the financing of the Rhenish-Westphalian heavy industry, including as chairman of the supervisory board of Gelsenkirchener Bergwerk AG .

At the beginning of the Weimar Republic he supported Hugo Stinnes and Albert Vögler in their projects for the reorganization and vertical concentration of German industry through the formation of interest groups.

Salomonsohn was skeptical about the merger of Disconto-Gesellschaft and Deutsche Bank in 1929, but became chairman of the supervisory board of the new company after the merger. From 1917 to 1930 he was a member of the Senate of the Kaiser Wilhelm Society .
