Gustav Arthur Svensson (born June 6, 1916 in Malung ; † October 18, 1989 ) was a Swedish football and bandy player . He was a Swedish national player in both sports.

career

Svensson, who grew up in Örebro , began his football career at the Almby BK district club . In 1936 he moved to Örebro SK in Division 3 Mellansvenska for one season .

In the summer of 1937 he moved to the reigning Swedish master AIK in the Allsvenskan . On his debut in the Swedish House of Lords on September 26th that year against Landskrona BoIS , he immediately scored the first goal in his new club's jersey. After he had only played eight league games in his first season, he established himself in the club's regular formation in the following years.

On June 15, 1938, he made his debut in the Swedish national football team at home in Råsundastadion , when the Finnish national team was defeated 2-0 by goals from Gunnar Bergström and Svensson's club mate Floyd Lagercrantz . Curious: the international match took place in France during the 1938 World Cup , when the Swedish national team failed in the semi-finals on the following day against the Hungarian national team . After the World Cup, he played all five other games of the Swedish national team, the last game of the year - a 2-3 defeat against Norway - was also his last international match.

Until 1943 he remained loyal to AIK and ran a total of 115 first division games for the club from Stockholm. He scored seven goals, all of which he scored in his first three seasons for the club. He then moved to local rivals Hammarby IF , where he later ended his career.

Parallel to his football career, Svensson also ran in the bandy for his respective clubs. He managed to be called up to the Swedish national team as well.

Others

The younger brother Eric also played soccer and bandy in Sweden's top leagues. In the 1950s he was with Örebro SK twice in the final of the Swedish Bandy Championship.
