Arthur de la Mare
Sir Arthur de La Mare (born February 15, 1914 in Trinity (Jersey) , † December 15, 1994 in Trinity (Jersey)) was a British diplomat , ambassador and writer in Jerriais .
Life
Arthur de La Mare graduated from Pembroke College in Cambridge.
In 1936 he left the State Department and joined the Foreign Office in the diplomatic service, where he worked in Tokyo , Seoul , San Francisco and Washington, DC .
From 1963 to 1965 he was the British ambassador to Kabul in Afghanistan , from 1968 to 1970 he was high commissioner in Singapore . From 1970 to 1973 he was British Ambassador to Bangkok in Thailand .
Arthur de La Mare was also a writer in the Norman language (Countes d'eun 'èrvénu , 1990-1994, in the Gazette du Sé ) and was from 1984 chronicler in the Jersey Evening Post , in which he regularly a column in the dialect of Trinity wrote the Jerriai language , not only commenting on current events and politics in Jersey, but also reporting on his life as a diplomat in the Far East.
Orders and decorations
De la Mare was a holder of high national and foreign awards. In 1957 he became Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George . In 1968 he was raised to the nobility as Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George and from then on carried the suffix "Sir". In 1972 he was awarded the Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order and the Grand Cross of the Thai Order of the White Elephant .
