Norbert Kappen (born February 1, 1928 in Gelsenkirchen , Germany , † August 23, 1984 in Klosterneuburg , Austria ) was a German actor and radio play speaker .

Live and act

Kappen began his stage career in the early 1950s on touring and traveling stages in the Ruhr area before he received his first permanent engagement at the Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe in 1953. Towards the end of the same decade, he followed engagements at theaters in Düsseldorf ( Kammerspiele ) and Cologne, where he also worked for a time as head director at the Theater am Dom. For a few years he also worked at the Contra-Kreis-Theater in Bonn and in the early 1970s also in Zurich and at the Munich Kammerspiele .

Kappen has been in front of the camera regularly since 1959 and starred in an abundance of television films for the next two and a half decades until his untimely death near Vienna. There he was seen in a wide variety of supporting roles: Kappen played simple types such as taxi drivers, waiters, secretaries and sergeants, but later he also played inspectors, professors and significant individual characters such as the ancient King Menelaus, Karl Liebknecht and Bruno Richard Hauptmann , the alleged kidnapper of the Lindbergh babies.

Norbert Kappen, who had also worked extensively as a speaker in radio play productions at radio , most recently worked and lived in or near Vienna. In the Austrian capital, he had been an integral part of the Burgtheater ensemble since the 1970s and was finally appointed chamber actor . He had his last television appearance in the series Derrick, in episode 118 (End of a Longing), which was broadcast only after his death on August 31, 1984.

On August 23, 1984, Norbert Kappen committed suicide with a revolver in his apartment in Klosterneuburg near Vienna.
