The Forum Free Theater Düsseldorf (FFT) is a production and event location for professional independent theater in the North Rhine-Westphalian state capital Düsseldorf .

Organization and program

Without a permanent acting ensemble, the FFT stands for a program at the interface of theater, performance , dance , visual arts and music . It was founded in 1999 and formed from the Kammerspiele Düsseldorf (until 1967 the private theater "Kammerspiele" under the direction of Hansjörg Utzerath in the Carsch-Haus ) and the Junge Theater in the old town without its own ensemble. It thus comprises two venues: the FFT Juta (120 seats) in the old town and the FFT Kammerspiele (200 seats) on Jahnstraße. In total, the FFT organizes over 300 events per year, which are attended by more than 22,000 spectators. Kathrin Tiedemann has been the artistic director and managing director since 2004.

The FFT is linked to an international network of independent production facilities (including in the alliance of international production houses ) and works closely with theaters in the region. The promotion of young artists from Düsseldorf, the presentation and production of works by nationally and internationally relevant artists and groups as well as the development of theater projects by and with children and young people are essential for the FFT. The Forum Free Theater is funded by the state capital Düsseldorf and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, as well as by the Kunststiftung NRW , the NPN, the Foundation van Meeteren, the Federal Cultural Foundation , which support individual projects.
