Trinity ( French La Trinité , Jèrriais : La Trinneté ), the jewel of the north (self-promotion), is one of the twelve parishes of Jersey . The municipality is located in the north of the island and covers 6975 vergées (13 km², 10% of the land area of Jersey). The municipality is markedly rural and unspoilt, is the third largest municipality on Jersey in terms of area, but the one with the third smallest population.
Neighboring parishes are Saint John in the west, Saint Helier in the south, Saint Savior in the southeast and Saint Martin in the east.
Les Platons is the highest point on the island (446 ft , 136 meters) in the municipality .
Sights and culture
The Jersey Zoo with Les Augrès Manor and the Pallot Heritage Steam Museum are located in the municipality.
In folklore , the Bouley area is the hunting ground of the Tchian d'Bouôlé ( Bouley's black dog ), a phantom dog that appears whenever a storm is imminent. The saga was probably spread by smugglers in order to deter people who might surprise them in their illegal deals from night-time ventures.
The parochial church of Trinity with its distinctive white pyramid top of the tower is an important landmark.
The Le Vesconte monument, erected in the shape of an obelisk in 1910, commemorates Philippe Le Vesconte (December 21, 1837 to August 21, 1909), who was in office ten times as a community leader ( connétable , constable , also head of the local police) was chosen.
Trinity Manor, not far from the Pallot Steam Museum , is the seat of the Seigneur of Trinity . The building was bought as a ruin by Athelstan Riley in 1909 and converted - which met with much criticism - in 1910–1913 according to the ideas of Sir Reginald Blomfield into a kind of country castle (château) in the French style. One of the remaining feudal duties in Jersey, one which is tied to the land of Trinity Manor and which is to be performed by the owner, the Seigneur of Trinity , is the monarch on his / her arrival in Jersey greeted with a pair of mallards . To do this, the Seigneur has to ride towards the ship until the horse's stomach is in the water. The current owner of the Seigneurie is Pamela Bell.
In 2012, the Trinity hoard was discovered in the municipality , which mainly dates from the Bronze Age.
