Artiom (Tommy) Arshansky Hebrew ארטיום (טומי) ארשנסקי(Born September 26, 1991 in Moscow ) is an Israeli judoka .

Arshansky's family is from Russia and immigrated to Israel when he was a child. His father Pavel, who trained and trained him as a judoka, was himself a wrestler .

Arshansky was already considered a great talent in the U17 age group. At the junior competition The Olympic Hopes in Kiev he reached a 2nd place in the class up to 46 kg in 2006, in the following year he entered the same competition in the weight class up to 50 kg and was first. He confirmed this good performance in 2007 at the International Masters U17 in Bremen , where he also won the weight class up to 50 kg.

International success

At the end of 2008 Arshansky won the Israeli Championships in Tel Aviv and then switched to the class up to 60 kg (super light weight), in which he has been fighting in international competitions since then. It took time to get used to the new weight class.

The year 2012 brought his breakthrough with the following international successes:

  • World Cup Tblissi 2012: 2nd place
  • World Cup Prague 2012: 3rd place
  • World Cup Madrid 2012: 2nd place
  • World Cup Lisbon 2012: 3rd place

The 20-year-old Arshansky took part in the Olympic Games in London in 2012 as Israel's youngest judoka , where he met and lost to the later silver medalist Hiroaki Hiraoka in the second round . A temporary crisis followed, but Israel's national judo trainer Oren Smadja motivated Arshansky to take part in the European Championships.

At the European Judo Championships in Budapest in 2013 , Arshansky offered one of his best performances, although he was handicapped by an injury. In the battle for bronze he met Janislaw Gertschew (Bulgaria), who had to accept two penalties for passivity, and won with Ippon .

In 2017 he defeated Richard Vergnes (France) in the class up to 60 kg at the European Open in Belgrade and won the first gold medal of the competition for Israel.
