Artur May

Artur May (born November 30, 1922 - † March 17, 2019 in Dinslaken ) was a German lawyer and judge at the Federal Social Court .

Life

After graduating from high school in Dinslaken in 1941, May initially did military service. He then studied law at the University of Cologne . He successfully completed his legal training with the first state examination he passed in 1949 and the second state examination passed in 1951. He then worked as a judge at the Düsseldorf Regional Court . After a short time he was employed in the higher service of the Ruhr miners' union in Bochum . After the Federal Social Court (BSG) was founded in 1954 , May was seconded to this court a little later for four years as a research assistant. He was then a judge at the Essen Regional Social Court .

On August 21, 1969, he was appointed judge at the Federal Social Court. At the BSG he was a member of both the 5a Senate and the 5b Senate. In the former Senate he dealt with legal issues relating to miners' insurance and accident insurance for mining , while the latter Senate was responsible for the pension insurance for workers . There he was deputy chairman. In January 1983 he was appointed presiding judge of the 8th and 10th Senates. His jurisdiction extended here to the affairs of the health insurance (8th Senate) and the legal disputes concerning the bankruptcy loss benefit and child benefit . From December 1979 to 1989 he was a member of the Grand Senate at the Federal Social Court. May also chaired the Judges' Council from July 1978 to June 1982 and was elected to the Presidium from January 1985 to December 1988. In addition, from 1979 to 1986 he was an assessor at the Federal Judicial Tribunal .

Since November 30, 1989 May, who also appeared in numerous legal publications, has been the bearer of the Great Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
