Artur Paul
Artur Paul (born April 11, 1899 in Alt Grabia ; † December 9, 1968 in Vaterstetten ) was a German general engineer and chief engineer of the Air Force , and after the end of the war an Air Force officer in the Bundeswehr , most recently with the rank of Brigadier General .
Life
Paul took part in the First World War as a war volunteer and retired from active service on May 6, 1919. He then worked as a foreman at various air sports organizations, from around January 1, 1934 to January 31, 1939 as technical manager at the Lechfeld Aviation Group , where he joined the Air Force on June 1, 1936 and became an aviator staff engineer (comparable a major ) and was assigned to the 3rd Squadron of Jagdgeschwader 334 from August 17 to October 16, 1937. From February 1 to April 15, he was responsible for the flight equipment of the covertly operating Condor Legion , then first division or later corps engineer of the 5th Flieger Division , then the 5th Fliegerkorps , where he most recently held the rank of Flieger- Oberstabsingenieurs ( lieutenant colonel ) served.
This was followed by employment as a Luftgau engineer at the Luftgau Kommando West France in Étampes from October 1940 to the end of April 1942, then several assignments as a chief engineer, first with the Luftwaffenkommando Ost, later with the rank of Colonel Engineer with Luftflotte 6 , and from March 1944 with the Luftflotte Reich , where he was promoted to general engineer on April 1, 1944 and awarded the Knight's Cross of the War Merit Cross with Swords on July 15, 1944 . On September 1, 1944, he became Chief Engineer of the Air Force in the Air Force High Command .
After the Second World War
He was taken prisoner of war on May 9, 1945, but was released that same year. After joining the newly established Bundeswehr, he worked as a stage manager for supplies, technology and equipment for the General Air Force Office, then from April 1, 1958 to March 31, 1960, then head of the Air Force Materials Office . Paul was retired on March 31, 1963. On February 22nd of the same year he was awarded the Grand Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
