Artur Saternus

Artur Saternus , also Arthur Saternus (born May 10, 1892 in Schwientochlowitz ; died June 24, 1970 in Angicourt ), was a German journalist , author and translator .

life and work

Saternus was married to Marfa Saternus. At the end of March 1933 he left Germany and first emigrated to France. He later lived in Budapest before returning to Germany in 1948. He spent his last years in France from 1965, where he died and was buried.

Saternus studied economics and was interested in politics from a young age. In 1919 he became editor of economic policy for “ Vorwärts ” in Berlin and in 1928 he took over the trade union and economic department in Frankfurt am Main for “ Volksstimme ”. In 1930 he became editor-in-chief of the “ Swabian Tagwacht ” in Stuttgart for the first time .

In addition to his work as a journalist and writer , he also worked as a translator. During his time in Hungary he translated several books by Sándor Márai from Hungarian into German. After his return to Germany, he worked for the “ World of Work ” in Cologne. He was in charge there from the start of the company's founding in 1950 up to and including autumn 1957 and received the Great Cross of Merit for his work before he left the company .
