Arturo Gordon Vargas (born August 7, 1883 in Casablanca , † October 27, 1944 in Valparaíso ) was a Chilean painter .

Gordon attended the Liceo San Agustín and the Liceo Miguel Luis Amunátegui in Santiago and took lessons from the painter Nicanor González Méndez during this time . He began studying architecture at the Universidad de Chile before moving to the Academia de Bellas Artes in 1903 . Here he was a student of Cosme San Martín , Pedro Lira , Fernando Álvarez de Sotomayor and Juan Francisco González , and he also took mural painting lessons from José Backhaus .

In 1910, the first works of the painter, who belongs to the group of artists of the Generación del Trece , were exhibited. In 1926, together with the painter Laureano Guevara , he decorated the national library in Santiago with allegorical fresco paintings. They then received the order for the wall paintings of the Chilean pavilion at the Exposición Ibero-Americana in Seville in 1929. Both were awarded first prize. From 1936 to 1944 Gordon was professor of painting at the Academia de Bellas Artes in Viña del Mar.

In 1983 and 1989 Gordon was honored with retrospectives in Santiago. Several of his works are in the possession of the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes .
