Arvède Barine
Arvède Barine , pseudonym of Louise-Cécile Vincens, b. Bouffé (born November 17, 1840 in Paris , † November 14, 1908 there ) was a French historian , biographer and literary critic .
Life
Arvède Barine was a granddaughter of the Swiss statesman Stapfer, who immigrated to France under Napoleon Bonaparte . She was married to Charles Ernest Vincens (1836-1908). She emerged with translations from Russian and English. She translated La Russie contemporaine (1872) by Herbert Barry from the English and souvenirs from the Russian : enfance, adolescence, jeunesse (1886) by Tolstoy . She wrote articles for the Revue politique et littéraire , Revue bleue , Revue des Deux Mondes , Nouvelle Revue and others. In her literary and cultural-historical essays she mostly dealt with foreign phenomena, gained entry in the Journal des Débats with treatises on Ibsen and since 1899 has been a regular at Figaro for women's issues and education.
