Arvo Salo
Arvo Jaakko Henrikki Salo (born May 2, 1932 in Merikarvia , Finland ; † July 9, 2011 ibid) was a Finnish journalist , writer and politician of the Social Democratic Party of Finland (SDP).
Life
After attending school and studying, Salo worked as a journalist and was the editor of the student newspaper Ylioppilaslehti , the highest circulation and most influential daily newspaper Helsingin Sanomat and Uutispäivä Demari , the party newspaper of the SDP. For his journalistic work and his articles he received the Eino-Leino-Preis in 1964 as well as the journalist 's award of the weekly newspaper Suomen Kuvalehti .
He began his writing career in the mid-1960s. His literary work includes poems , lyrics and a drama . With Lapualaisooppera (1966) he created a milestone in the history of radical theater in Finland.
In addition to his literary career, Salo was involved as a politician in the Social Democratic Party of Finland and was elected to the Finnish Parliament for the first time in 1966 , to which he initially belonged until 1970. Between 1979 and 1983 he was again a member of the SDP in Parliament and from December 31, 1982 to May 6, 1983 Minister of Culture in the third cabinet of Prime Minister Kalevi Sorsa .
