Arzén of Cserépy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eugen Arzén von Cserépy (born July 17, 1881 in Budapest , Austria-Hungary , † 1958 in Budapest, Hungary ) was a Hungarian film director and film producer .

Life

Cserépy came from the auto industry and had been in the film business since the early 1910s. His fame is based primarily on the series of Fridericus Rex films about the Prussian King Friedrich II that his Berlin- based production company Cserépy-Film Co. GmbH started for the UFA . His four Fridericus films, shot between 1920 and 22, with Otto Fee in the title role, were among the most successful, but also most controversial German film productions of the 1920s. From 1925 to 1928 he stayed in Hollywood and New York without succeeding in realizing a film project there. After returning to Germany, he founded the production companies Cserépy-Filmgesellschaft mbH (1928) and Panzer Film GmbH (1931).

Several times he was listed as Konrad Wieder . Under this pseudonym, Cserépy published the future war novel The Teutone in 1915 , which contained an implicit appeal for peace.

The Filmmuseum Potsdam owns the estate of Arzen von Cserépy. In 2001, working materials, correspondence, personal documents and photos were presented in an exhibition.
