Drei von der Stempelstelle is a German comedy from the unemployed world by Eugen Thiele with Adolf Wohlbrück , Fritz Kampers and Paul Kemp in the title roles.

action

Germany in the late phase of the Weimar Republic . Poverty and social misery are omnipresent, the queues of the unemployed are long. Those who are not in wages and salaries have to "stamp out", that is, register as unemployed so as not to starve to death. The mass misery has gripped large parts of the German population, including the two friends Fritz and Arthur, who live in a tiny room that they sublet with the widow Gohlke, a laundress, and her daughter Else. In order to somehow make ends meet, the two men commit small rip-offs, illegal deals with which they can improve their meager state support. The sturdy Fritz and the slender Arthur are both in love with Else Gohlke, who earns a small income as a seamstress in a hat shop. One day the young woman also loses her job and now has to go stamping too.

When Fritz and Arthur one day meet the handsome Max Binder, they are joined by a man who is even worse off than they are. Despite his looks, impeccable manners and a good education, he is also on the street. Without a place to stay and without a penny in his wallet, he literally collapses from Arthur and Fritz due to physical exhaustion. The two friends drag the emaciated Max to Frau Gohlke's poor pension and see to it that he gets something to eat and a roof over his head. Max promptly begins to flirt with Else, who is very fond of the impoverished handsome. Disillusioned and frustrated, Arthur and Fritz then withdraw from the city and go to the country. You have heard that some other unemployed people have come together there to set up a kind of poor settlement for themselves "on the green field".

At least for the Gohlke daughter, there is a silver lining on the horizon. Your unemployment is short-lived because Mr. Kienast, who also runs a fashion salon, offers Else, whom he knows from before, a job. She accepts, but has to quickly find out that Mr. Kienast expects certain erotic favors in return. When the business owner realizes that he is not getting anywhere with his stalking, he throws Else out again without further ado, so that she is again without work and income. When Max finds out about this, he wants to confront Kienast, whereupon the two men fight. When Kienast is down, he is arrested. Now he too has to realize that the city no longer offers him a livelihood. He now also wants to move to the country with Else, to Arthur and Fritz, in order to venture a new start.

Production notes

Drei von der Stempelstelle was created in December 1931 / January 1932 in and around Berlin and, based on the title of the comedy Die Drei von der Gasstelle, is a tongue-in-cheek answer to the enormous box office success of the production (1930) by the far more famous brother Eugen Thieles, Wilhelm Thiele . A serious discussion of the pressing social problems of those years in Germany, such as Slatan Dudow's film Kuhle Wampe , which was made at the same time and formulated a socialist message , is not offered by this lightweight comedy.

The two producers Paul Michael Bünger and Heinz Schall also took over the production management, the musical direction was with Felix Günther and Arne Kunth. Heinrich C. Richter created the film structures . Carl Erich Kroschke set the tone.

criticism

The Österreichische Film-Zeitung wrote in its brief review: “… the problem of unemployment is not presented here in its gloomy severity; one could rather call the film a popular piece of our day that looks at this problem with amiable humor. "
