Ferdinand von Alten , also Theo von Alten (born April 13, 1885 in Saint Petersburg , † March 16, 1933 in Dessau ; born Baron von Lamezan auf Altenhofen ) was a German actor .

Life

Like his ancestors, he initially embarked on a military career and became an officer, but then took acting lessons from Albert Steinrück and decided to become an actor. In 1911 he made his debut at the Hoftheater in Munich, where he worked until the end of the First World War.

From 1918 he appeared on the Berlin theaters, especially at the Deutsches Theater , where he was part of the ensemble during the 1920s . He soon got into silent film and was often cast with medium and small roles. He embodied elegant lovers, officers and superiors.

Ferdinand von Alten died at the age of 47 of pleurisy and pneumonia, which he contracted during a theater tour, and was buried in the St. Matthias Cemetery in Berlin.
