action

Eva drives through Berlin in her convertible. Your puppy hops out of the car, Prince Michael brings it back to her. - Since the old Prince of Marana wants to clarify the succession, Michael wants to return home. But then he sees in the newspaper that the lady with the dog was the famous singer Eva. So he decides not to leave until he has heard Eva sing. During the opera performance of La Traviata, in which Eva sings a few arias, Michael sees that his cousin Prince Wenzel is also among the audience. - You then meet at Eva in her villa to celebrate her departure. The banker Ravel wants to get his hands on the oil wells of the principality and promises Eva to make her Wenzel the successor of the old prince. Wenzel, posing as "Maier", appears. Michael also appears there, also pretending to be "Maier".

Montalon receives a telegram that the prince has died. Ravel arranges a flight and Wenzel quickly flies back to the principality with the prince, where he immediately takes over the government and has the border closed.

Eva's troop cannot leave without her. However, Eva and Michael drive through the area with their sports car, singing "We are young, and life is ours ...". Montalon looks for and finds Michael at Eva: she learns that this "Maier" is Prince Michael. The appearance in Vienna is canceled, the drama troupe travels directly to the capital of Marana, shown in the film through Dubrovnik , and takes Michael with them.

On arrival in Marana, the singers of the troupe have the opportunity to present themselves as singers when they go ashore. Michael has to see that he first goes into hiding. After Eva lets Wenceslas lead her into the castle, the festivities for the enthronement of Wenceslas begin. Some entanglements then arise that lead to the determination of Eva and Michael.

But when Ravel wants to speak to the people for Wenzel, Eva opens the window, begins to sing and enthuses everyone for Michael, who is finally set free. Eve flies into his arms to the cheers of the people.

background

As an introduction, the Berlin of the thirties is shown with the Brandenburg Gate and Potsdamer Platz , recognizable by the five-sided traffic light above the intersection. Back then, Berlin was one of the largest cities in Europe.

Michael gets a bit slapstick on stage during the opera performance and can smile at Eva before he has to go behind the curtain again. At Eva's reception afterwards, you can hear the recently famous Comedian Harmonists singing a song on “Herr Maier”.

The castle of the Marana is lavishly built inside and out in a mixture of baroque and modern components as a film set.
