Otto Stransky (born May 15, 1889 in Brno , Moravia , † November 23, 1932 in Berlin ) was an Austrian composer of operettas, revues and films .

Life

After attending school, Stransky studied at the Leipzig Conservatory with Arthur Nikisch and Max Reger and from 1910 was a répétiteur and conductor at the Leipzig theater. Under Max Reinhardt's direction, he conducted performances of the Miracle in Vienna. He worked at the Raimund Theater in Vienna and at the Theater an der Wien . In 1915 Stransky became musical director of the Viennese cabaret Simplizissimus . After the First World War and completing his military service, Stransky was engaged as a resident composer and piano accompanist at various Berlin cabarets from 1921. From 1926 he worked for Kurt Robitschek's Kabarett der Komiker (KaDeKo) .

Stransky was successful both as an operetta and revue composer and as a film composer. In 1929 he wrote music for the singer short film In Jena, all girls are so blond with the tenor Franz Baumann (1890-1965), and later another 20 popular hits for talkies. The best known were the melodies from the sound film Die - oder keine (1932), which was violently attacked by the National Socialists because of the alleged mockery of Wagner's works. He wrote the song When you lose your heart - Nobody knows where this will lead , the text of which was written by Johannes Brandt (1884–1955). Brandt was also responsible for the script, Stransky for the musical direction. A year earlier he had written the music for Alfred Zeisler's sound film His Divorce Reason (D 1931). Ruth Feiner wrote the lyrics and the orchestra played Dajos Béla Stransky's melodies in the film.

Otto Stransky wrote the texts for revues, often together with Fritz Rotter, for example for Rudolph Nelson's revue Die Lichter von Berlin in 1927 , as well as for other daily hits. He wrote a number of songs for the Berlin chanson singer Claire Waldoff .

Stransky died in 1932 in Berlin in a car accident.
