As Divine Grace was a Finnish metal and rock band from Pori , which was founded in 1991 under the name Morpheus and split up around 2000/2001.

history

The band was founded in 1991 under the name Morpheus. The line-up initially consisted of the bass player and singer Jari Mäkiranta, the guitarists Ari-Ala-Miekkaoka and Sami Långsjö and the drummer Matti Tuohimaa. After a few months of rehearsal, the Path of the Past demo was recorded in May , followed by another in February 1992. After that the group wrote more songs, which stylistically moved away from traditional Thrash and Death Metal towards Doom Metal , which is why the band renamed itself As Divine Grace in the summer of 1993.

In the winter of 1993/1994 the EP Romantic Beatitude of Faded Dawn was recorded. During the recording, the sound engineer Jukka Sillanpää joined the band as a keyboardist. The EP was released on Folter Records in April 1995 . In July 1995, the recording of the debut album Lumo began , after which Hanna Kalske can be heard as the singer. After the group had signed a contract with Avantgarde Music , the album was released in July 1997. After that, Mäkiranta and Tuohimaa left the occupation. First the drummer Mikko Lappälainen was hired, after which the album Supremature was released in November 1999. After the release, Marko Taipole joined as bassist. The band broke up around 2000/2001.

style

In Rock Hard , Hansi Daberger described Lumo's music as melancholic , atmospheric and melodic Doom Metal with female vocals. The songs are quite long with a minimum playing time of seven minutes each. Nephil from Metal.de stated in his review that the predecessor could still be assigned to Gothic Metal , but Supremature now offers Melodic Rock . He summarized the music as a mixture of later Katatonia , The Gathering and a lot of Madder Mortem . The singing is a little less strong than that of Anneke van Giersbergen , where it fluctuates "between delicate mourning hymns and a style that somehow reminds of old jazz things like Ella Fitzgerald ".
