Asaf Koçak

Asaf Koçak (* 1958 in Yerköy / Yozgat , † July 2, 1993 in Sivas ) was a Kurdish cartoonist .

life and work

Asaf Koçak was born in Yerköy in Yozgat, but comes from the village of Mahmutlu in Çiçekdağı / Kırşehir and belongs to the ethnic group of the Central Anatolian Kurds . He lived in Yozgat with his father, Eze Teksin, and his mother, Afe Mome, until he was young. Asaf Koçak had six siblings and was the fifth child.

His love for drawing began in elementary school. To improve his knowledge, he attended the Davutpasa cartoonist school in Istanbul . Immediately afterwards he successfully graduated from Kırşehir University. To develop his talent further, he completed a four-year apprenticeship as a cartoonist. He then gave cartoonist lessons in Adıyaman for three years .

He moved to Ankara and played in a short film (Büyük Simbad - Eng .: The Great Sindbad ) and occasionally worked as a plumber. He drew caricatures of Pir Sultan Abdal with his two friends Erdal Ayranci and Uğur Kaynar.

After participating in the 4th Pir Sultan Abdal Festival in Sivas , Asaf Koçak was killed on July 2, 1993 in the arson attack on the Madimak Hotel with Erdal Ayranci and Uğur Kaynar.

In 1997 his book of caricatures appeared. Caricaturist competitions are still held under his name today.
