Asanee Wasan ( Thai : อัสนี - วสันต์ , also Asanee & Wasan Chotikul - อัสนี - วสันต์ โชติ กุล ) is a rock band from Thailand consisting of the brothers Asanee "Pom" and Wasan "Toe" Chotikul. Among the two brothers, Asanee is known as the rocker and for his guitar solos, while Wasan is more of the gentler side.

history

The Chotikul brothers were born in Loei Province , Asanee on April 9, 1955 and Wasan on March 25, 1957. Both moved to Bangkok to study and began their musical careers in the 1970s with a band called "Isn't" . The music style was folk rock . In 1974 they took part in a folk song competition, which they won. They then released several albums under the name Isn't: Sao ngam ta ( beautiful girl ) and Siam Square, among others . As Asanee preferred to make rock music, he left the band. He first joined the oriental funk band Rewat Buddhinan and later switched to the band Butterfly . Both brothers got together again in 1986 to release their first album Bah horb fang as "Asanee-Wasan" . They then signed a contract with GMM Grammy , under whose label they also released the next album. Puk-chee roy nah contained the duo's first hits: “Nung Mit Chid Klai” ( A Close Friend ) and “Kor Keui Sanya”.

In 1989 Asanee-Wasan set the full ceremonial name of Bangkok ( Krung Thep Mahanakhon etc.) to music in a song . Many Thais use the melody as a memory aid to recall the 43 syllable long name.

In addition to working with his brother Wasan, Asanee Chotikul founded the More Music label under the umbrella of the GMM Grammy. For example, he discovered and produced Sek LOSO .

The duo's 20th anniversary was celebrated with a “20th Anniversary Concert” in the “Impact Arena” Mueang Thong Thani in the Bangkok suburb of Pak Kret . Originally only one concert was planned, but due to the great demand they gave two more concerts which were also both sold out. All in all, they played from 12-14 May 2006 three concerts in a row in front of a sold out house. The arena holds 12,000 spectators. There were other concerts in Nakhon Ratchasima (province) and Phuket . Supporting acts were Fahrenheit .

In May 2008, Asanee-Wasan embarked on a small world tour, performing in Sydney, Los Angeles, London and New York.

In 2007 the last album to date was released. Pug Ron and Asanee-Wasan gave a concert in the Rajamangala National Stadium which was recorded and released on DVD.

Wasan's solo projects

Wasan usually only sings one or two songs on the duo's albums. For example, he sang a hit by the brothers, Khong Derm . Another hit, Nueng Mit Chit Klai , was one of his works for the band Isn't and was rearranged and produced for Asanee-Wasan. Wasan also released two albums during his time with his brother, Guitar Toe with Isn't in 1988 and the solo album Khuen Toe in 1992.
