Asbach is a district of the municipality Asbach-Sickenberg in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia . It is one of the few places in the Eichsfeld district that does not belong to the historic Eichsfeld .

geography

Asbach is located on the edge of the southwestern Eichsfeld. The village lies between the Lindenberg and the Rachelsberg .

history

Asbach was first mentioned in 1284 as superiori et inferiori Aspeche together with the neighboring Sickenberg. The village belonged to the administrative district of the Landgraves Castle Altenstein . In the 15th century the place was deserted, then the lords of Bischoffshausen received it as a fief and in the 18th century it belonged to the Hessian office of Allendorf . This is why the place also called Asbach bei Allendorf as an addition.

In 1945, as part of the Wanfried Agreement, border corrections were made, whereby the previously Hessian villages Asbach and Sickenberg were assigned to the Soviet occupation zone , in this case Thuringia. On July 1, 1950, the communities Asbach and Sickenberg were merged to form a new community Asbach / Sickenberg. From 1952 to 1990 the place was affected by the close inner German border . On May 1, 1992 the name was changed to Asbach-Sickenberg .

Architectural monuments

The village church was rebuilt after a previous church was demolished in 1779. The belfry of the small "Reconciliation Church" in the center of the village has two bells, one of which is engraved with the year 1582, probably from the previous church. A corner stone with the year 1581 probably comes from this, which was found during a renovation in 1976, where a document describing the renovation was also found. On October 22, 1978 the church in Asbach was consecrated again after extensive renovation work. In the same year, the small church in the center of the village received a new organ with five stops , a manual and a hanging pedal from the organ builder workshop Rudolf Böhm from Gotha .

The historic town center was entered as a monument ensemble in the monuments book of the Free State of Thuringia in June 2018 .
